Common Vetch (Vicia sativa ssp. Segetalis)

• variable pink/purple flowers
• grows to a height of 40 cm
• ladder-like leaflets with “needle” on ends
• from June onwards

At the base of leaves are stipules each with a black spot that secretes sugary substance to attract ants. The ants then help to defend the plant against other insects.
